An Insect Bite, a Puffy Reaction & the 3 Essential Oils I Reached For

I wasn't expecting it.

A little while ago, I had an insect bite that left me with a really puffy area around the bite. My body was clearly reacting to something, and it reminded me why I like to keep a few of my favourite essential oils close by.

The three I reached for were Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon.

Now, before I explain why, I want to make something clear.

I'm sharing my own experience and how I personally use essential oils as part of my natural wellbeing routine. I'm not suggesting that essential oils treat an allergic reaction or replace medical care.

But I do think there's something really valuable about having natural wellness tools that you know and enjoy using.

💜 Lavender – the oil I always seem to reach for

If I had to choose one essential oil that I wouldn't want to be without, Lavender would be right up there.

I love the aroma of Lavender. It's soft, gentle and comforting, and for me it's one of those oils that immediately makes me want to slow down.

After noticing the reaction around the bite, I chose Lavender because I wanted something that felt gentle and comforting as part of my self-care routine.

Sometimes it's not about doing something complicated.

It's simply about stopping for a moment, taking a breath and enjoying an aroma that you love.

🌿 Peppermint – that fresh, cooling feeling

Peppermint is completely different.

Where Lavender feels soft and comforting, Peppermint is fresh, invigorating and cooling.

I love that instant freshness you get from Peppermint, and it's one of the reasons it is such a favourite of mine.

After the insect bite, I enjoyed using Peppermint for that lovely refreshing sensory experience.

It's one of those oils that I think everyone should get to know because there are so many ways to enjoy its aroma.

🍋 Lemon – fresh, bright and uplifting

And then there's Lemon.

I absolutely love citrus oils, and Lemon is one of my favourites.

There's something about that fresh, clean citrus aroma that I find incredibly uplifting.

When I want to freshen the atmosphere or simply enjoy something bright and refreshing, Lemon is often the oil I choose.

So, after my little insect-bite experience, Lemon became my third choice.

Why these three?

I think this is one of the reasons I love essential oils so much.

You don't necessarily need a huge collection.

You can start with a few oils and discover what you personally love.

For me:

💜 Lavender – comforting and calming🌿 Peppermint – fresh and invigorating🍋 Lemon – bright and uplifting

Three very different oils, three completely different sensory experiences.

And that's what I want people to understand when I talk about Natural Intelligence.

It's not about believing that natural products can replace everything else.

It's about becoming more knowledgeable.

It's about understanding what you have in your home, learning how to use it appropriately and discovering what works for your own everyday wellbeing routine.

What about the insect bite?

The puffy area around my insect bite was a reminder to me that our bodies can react to things in very different ways.

A small localised reaction isn't the same as a serious allergic reaction.

If you ever experience a rapidly worsening reaction, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth or throat, dizziness or feeling faint, seek urgent medical attention.

Essential oils should never delay appropriate medical treatment.

For me, this experience was simply another reminder of why I love having my favourite oils nearby.

Lavender. Peppermint. Lemon.

Three little bottles that have become part of my everyday natural wellness toolkit. 🌿

And perhaps that's the best place to start if you're new to essential oils:

Don't try to learn everything at once.

Choose a few oils.

Learn about them.

Smell them.

Experience them.

And start discovering which ones you naturally reach for.

Which three essential oils would you want in your natural wellness toolkit?
