Why Purity Matters in Essential Oils — A Conversation With Dr. O

When people hear about essential oils, they usually focus on what the oil is supposed to do.
Lavender for calming. Peppermint for energy. Lemon for cleaning. But something Dr. O from doTERRA said in our conversation really stuck with me about purity and something that I have been going on and on about for a very long time.
We are in a world where people do not trust many things so the importance of purity is such a big subject to discuss.
Most people don’t realise how unregulated the essential oil industry can be. Two bottles can both say “lavender oil” on the label and be completely different inside. Some products are diluted, some contain synthetic ingredients, and others may have been poorly sourced or processed. I have been there myself, I brought a Teatree Oil for my daughter many years ago thinking it was pure and honestly I wish I had never brought it now.
That’s why purity matters so much to us all and is so important.
Listen to Dr. O share more details about why purity matters.
Essential oils, quality starts long before the oil reaches the bottle. It starts with the soil, the climate, the harvesting process, and how the plants are distilled. If any part of that process is rushed or compromised, the final product changes too.
One thing I appreciated during our conversation was that he wasn’t just talking about marketing terms or trendy wellness language. He was talking about consistency, sourcing, and testing making sure people actually know what they’re using.
Because at the end of the day, if you’re putting something on your skin, diffusing it in your home, or using it as part of your daily routine, you want to trust that what’s in the bottle is what the label says it is.
That’s one of the reasons doTERRA puts such a big focus on testing. Every batch goes through multiple rounds of quality checks to make sure the oils are free from contaminants and meet their purity standards.
Whether someone personally uses essential oils or not, I think the bigger point here is important: transparency matters.
Consumers are becoming more aware of what they buy, where products come from, and how they’re made. People want honesty, not just good branding.
Talking with Dr. O reminded me that purity isn’t just a buzzword in the essential oil world it’s the foundation of everything else.
