Are We in a “Trust Recession”

Yesterday I was at Thorpe Park, screaming my way through rollercoasters and having one of those random moments where your brain suddenly goes deep while you’re standing in a queue 😅
And I kept thinking about this phrase someone said recently:“We’re in a trust recession.”
Honestly… it makes sense.
It feels like people question everything now. Ads, Influencers, Brand Reviews Wellness products. Even genuine recommendations from real people.
I think everyone’s just become more cautious because we’re constantly being sold to online. So now people naturally step back first before trusting anything.
And as someone who shares wellness online, I notice this a lot.
I’ll post something I genuinely love or use daily, share my own experience with it, and people connect with it straight away. They message me, ask questions, tell me they relate, or say they’ve been looking for something similar.
But then sometimes when they realise I’m also a doTERRA Wellness Advocate… there’s this tiny shift.
Like suddenly they’re unsure whether I’m sharing because I love it or because I sell it.
And walking around Thorpe Park yesterday, I honestly kept thinking: how do I make things feel more authentic in a world where everyone is skeptical?
The answer I came back to was actually really simple.
I think authenticity is less about what you share and more about how you share it.
People don’t want perfection anymore. They want honesty.
Real routines.Real experiences.Real life.
Not pretending everything is life-changing. Not forcing products onto people. Not acting like wellness looks the same for everyone.
Just genuinely sharing what works for you and letting people decide for themselves.
Because the truth is, I’d still talk about wellness even if I wasn’t selling anything. It became part of my everyday life before it ever became part of my work.
And I think people can feel the difference between pressure and sincerity.
So maybe we really are in a “trust recession.”But maybe trust is also built differently now slowly, quietly, through consistency and honesty over time.
That’s the kind of space I always want this page to be, a community for everyone to share their knowledge and support each other.
